Love is as strong as death
Song of Solomon 8:6b-7 for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. 7) Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.
When I first stumbled upon this verse, I was shocked to see such a comparison of love to death. Never had I ever seen such a thing. Whenever people speak of love, 1 Corinthians 13: 4 - 8 is always referred to or it is said that love is a verb and not a feeling or that it is a state of mind. I saw a whole new meaning to the word love and what it means and I finally understood God's love for us.
Love in this sense has no cure. It is like death! When you die, you are dead. Nothing can bring you back to life except Christ. Death has completely taken over and there is no coming back from it. You are immovable, and you remain untouched by the things of the world. You can only be affected by God.
As the phrase 'love is as strong as death', kept ringing in my head, it made me realize what love is, what love should be, and what love hasn't been and what it is not in the world. None of us truly know how to love except very very few people. Love is as strong as death, it cannot be quenched by many waters... Neither can floods drown it. It cannot be violated, it cannot be put out like fire. Love is to God as death is to the human body.
This means when you love, you love with all that you are. Like death, love has completely taken over your body and you are under its subjection. You are its hostage and everything you do is in love. You cannot be removed from it. Nothing affects you from within or without. Love is here to stay and this is how we are meant to be with love.
